Gebze Institute of Technology

Gebze Institute of Technology (GIT) (Turkish: Gebze Yüksek Teknoloji Enstitütsü) (GYTE), established in Gebze in the Marmara Region, Turkey, is a graduate university busying itself in the first line with research and development in technology. The institute aims to carry on the duty of being a research foundation, which raises researchers that are entrepreneurs and open-minded, obtains an esteemed level at production of science and technology at international platform and assists in having a Turkish industry get into a respected position in global competing environment.

Institute, giving education at graduate level in its 4 faculties since 1994, has begun to undergraduate education at departments of Physics, Mathematics, Materials Science, Computer Engineering and Electronics Engineering since 2001. Education programs are supported with English (30%). In GIT which has 785 undergraduate and 1,566 graduate students, there are 372 academic instructors . The increase at number of transactions, which are published at international journals, up to 135 in our institute involving 146 academic instructors with doctorates in 2006 has raised publication level of GIT to a higher degree among the other universities in Turkey. GIT, which develops very fast with its distinguishing academic staff and wide technical infrastructure despite its being so young, is on the way of being an assertive university with its professors with doctorate and rate of students per professor.

Establishments of Institute at Çayýrova and Muallimköy, are on the connection way of Kocaeli-Ýstanbul , and linked to E-5 and TEM superhighway , and also near to Kurtköy Sabiha Gökçen Airport. In constitution of Institute , there are 41 research laboratories equipped in accordance with modern technology. GIT Library; as well as possessing more than 10,000 books and 222 periodicals, provides communication with 9,705 electronical journals at 8 different database.

Main gain

The main target of GIT, which was founded in 1992 as a specialty university for performing advance research, training, education, production, publication and consultancy in science and technology; is to continue its development as a technology institute which possesses the substructure and human force that can compete against the similar ones in World.

Main duty

Is to educate individuals owning the essential principles of Turkish Republic and universal ethic values, thinking free and independently, knowing how to reach to knowledge, utilizing this information, producing , developing and spreading it, being researcher at a qualification of studying independently, but successful at team-work as well, having social responsibility and environment conscious, knowing the fundamentals of his/her job at least at undergraduate level, becoming an expert at related sub-discipline, producing contemporary technologies and utilizing them, to carry on researches based on industry cooperation and to assist to country industry in increasing its power at international rivalry.

Campus

Muallimköy Campus

Muallimköy Campus is the main campus of the Gebze Institute of Technology. It is still under construction but Environmental Engineering, Biology and Chemistry departments are continuing their research on there since 2002. When it is finished, it will contain most of the departments on its 3,800,000 m² field. It will also contain 500 person capacity dormitory.

Çayýrova Campus

As the first campus of Gebze Institute of Technology, Çayýrova Campus contains Physics, Mathematics, Materials Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Design and Manufacturing Engineering and Architecture departments. It is also where undergraduate education is performed. This campus is a rare example that is able to preserve the natural life in the region with its 851,000 m² natural field.
