2nd International Hydrogen Energy Congress and Exhibition To Be Held In

The 2nd International Hydrogen Energy Congress and Exhibition will be held between July 13th and 15th at the Lutfi Kirdar Convention and Exhibition Centre in Istanbul. The congress and exhibition are expected to bring 2000 delegates to Istanbul.
Hydrogen Production Technologies (Chemical),Hydrogen Production Using Different Energy Sources, Biological Hydrogen Production, Hydrogen Utilization, National / International Perspectives, Hydrogen Safety, Hydrogen Storage and Transport, Hydrogen Energy Systems, Fuel Cell Development, Environmental Issues, Hydrogen Economy are among topics to be discussed at the congress.

Prof. Dr. Nejat Veziroglu, World Hydrogen Energy Council Chairman, indicated fuel oil and natural gas production per capita would peak in 2025 and would gradually decline after this date. "The damage caused by petroleum, natural gas and coal in the world amounts to 50 trillion dollars every year. This damage in Turkey is 50 billion dollars ever year," said Veziroglu. Veziroglu pointed out that fossil fuels in the world would extinguish by 2060 and said the hydrogen energy could alternate with a 26 percent higher efficiency rate than other sources. "The foreign currency Turkey spends on importing fossil fuels nearly equals its foreign trade deficit. If we produce our own fuel this deficit will be settled," underscored Veziroglu.

Veziroglu emphasized Turkey could produce hydrogen from sugarcane, wind power, water and sun, and indicated that in five to ten years the cost of hydrogen produced from solar power would be cheaper than fuel oil.

"If we catch this new technology era simultaneously with other countries, we will acquire this technology and produce goods with high accretion value. We will export some of it. Then we will reach the level of contemporary civilizations. State leadership and incentives are required for this. If we make plans to switch to Hydrogen energy in 30 years we will reach the level of income per capita of EU states by 2060," said Veziroglu.
